Molecular Biology Associate

Location: Bothell, WA (Metro Seattle area)

The Company:
AVI BioPharma is a drug development and commercialization company with clinical programs in Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a range of viral diseases including Ebola, Marburg, Junin and Dengue viruses and, through a partnership with Cook Medical, in the prevention of restenosis in patients receiving a drug-eluting arterial stent after angioplasty for arterial occlusion.

The Position:
AVI is currently seeking a Molecular Biology Associate in the Discovery Research department.

Responsibilities and Skill Requirements:

  • Cell culture experience including: Growth and maintenance of various immortal mouse and human cell lines; growth of primary mouse and human cells and myogenic cells; skeletal muscle stem cell collection, isolation, and preservation.
  • Animal handing experience including: ability to work with and handle rodents; intraperitoneal, intravenous, and intramuscular injections; necropsies; knowledge of IACUC guidelines and Animal Care and Use Protocols (ACUP).
  • Laboratory skills including:
    • Aseptic, cell culture techniques
    • RNA/DNA isolation, RT-PCR, and primer design using vector NTI software
    • Analysis of pre-mRNA splicing
    • Oligonucleotide handing and application in cell culture and mice
    • Western, Southern, Northern Blotting
    • BSL2/BSL3 knowledge and operating procedures
    • Flow Cytometry skills: intracellular cytokine staining, surface molecule staining, multicolor compensation, use of flow analysis software such as FLOWJO.
  • Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years laboratory experience or Master's degree with 2-3 years laboratory experience required.
