AVI BioPharma CEO to Present at Fifth Annual Rodman & Renshaw Techvest Healthcare Conference

PORTLAND, Ore. - Oct. 20, 2003 - AVI BioPharma, Inc. (Nasdaq: AVII), today announced that the company is scheduled to present at the fifth annual Rodman & Renshaw Techvest Healthcare Conference at the Boston Marriott Long Wharf Hotel.

Denis R. Burger, Ph.D., chief executive officer of AVI, is scheduled to speak at 10:30 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, Oct. 21. Burger will present an update on AVI's clinical development programs, including those related to cardiovascular disease, antiviral applications and cancer.
